Educate + Advocate Empowerment Series 

This summer, DSCBA will be hosting five virtual workshops for Parents/Caregivers that focus on common education-related topics, such as Special Education law, IEPs, communication in school, behavior in school, and more.  We will cover the basics of each topic, then discuss how to effectively advocate for the services and support your child needs and deserves to thrive in school.  

    • Laying the Foundation for Meaningful Advocacy
      Participants will learn how to effectively advocate for a meaningful and appropriate education that aligns with vision for their child with Down syndrome.

    • Understanding Key Components of Special Education Law & IEP 
      Participants will learn key components of IDEA and ADA and how Special Education Law can support a more meaningful education for students with Down syndrome.

      Participants will learn more about effective communication supports in school and how to advocate for them on their child's IEP

Please join attorney Ellen Cookman for a lively and informative presentation on Special Needs Trusts and ABLE accounts.  We will explore:
